NY Launches Reporting Tool for Residents to Report ICE Videos Following Arrests of Four US Citizens

The state AG has rolled out a new reporting form urging residents to submit photos and videos of federal immigration enforcement across New York. This step follows a day after a significant immigration operation rattled Chinatown in Manhattan, prompting widespread outcry.

US Citizens Detained During Enforcement Action

A US congressman revealed during a news conference that four citizens were arrested and detained for "nearly 24 hours" following Tuesday's raid. Rallies broke out in NYC on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Each citizen is entitled to live without fear," the AG wrote in a release.

"For those who saw and captured immigration enforcement recently, I urge you to share that footage with us. We are committed to examining these reports and determining any legal breaches."

Submission Process

The platform provides options to submit images and video footage of the raid, plus a area to specify geographic details. Before submitting, submitters must mark a box that acknowledges that "the attorney general might employ any materials, images, or footage in a legal proceeding, including in a lawsuit or government document."

Information about the Chinatown Raid

The Manhattan operation, which observers say featured over fifty ICE personnel, happened in a famous district of the city where counterfeit handbags, accessories, jewelry and merchandise are commonly traded widely – typically to tourists.

Recordings of Tuesday's raid depict multiple covered and weaponized officers zip-tying and detaining a individual, and pushing back witnesses. Masses of residents followed the agents down the sidewalks. An armored truck was observed moving along the Manhattan avenues.

Official Reactions

During a Wednesday press conference featuring the immigrant advocacy group, Representative Goldman, a Democrat, said that four American citizens were arrested by immigration for about 24 hours and that there were "no conditions where nationals should be taken for no reason." He noted the individuals were let go on the following day with no legal action taken.

"The goal is evident here. It is not about removing offenders," the congressman remarked. "This represents a military-style operation to create conflict. It is purely a pretext to provoke conflict for federal officials to deploy the military to stop conflict that they initiated."

Extensive Outcry

Anger over the ICE raid quickly spread – every NYC mayor hopefuls condemned the raid, as did Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Yet again, the Trump administration chooses heavy-handed tactics that create fear, not safety. It has to end," one mayoral candidate declared.

New York City immigrant rights groups expressed outrage also.

"Federal officers targeted the neighborhood with armored transports, covered personnel and riot gear to focus on local sellers attempting to earn income. This action had no connection to citizen protection and everything to do with intimidating residents and neighborhoods," stated the president of a rights organization.

Agency Rules

Agency rules forbids the detention of US citizens and the bureau has said it will not arrest or detain citizens. Nevertheless, external research has found that numerous American nationals have been taken illegally by immigration authorities during the period of the current administration.

Ongoing Trend

ICE raids have been cropping up increasingly in the state and nationwide this year.

A mid-October raid in midtown Manhattan was the earliest reported action on an housing center of the existing leadership. Demonstrations targeting immigration enforcement are commonplace as are allegations of aggression and abusive practices.

Latest, a letter provided by civil rights groups claimed healthcare failures of pregnant women in government custody.
